Big Trouble in Little Japan and other Things.

I am going to be giving a metaphysical talk with some demonstration of techniques and a short musical performance in the next few weeks in Zurich at a hall. Please email me or comment if you are coming so we have an idea of scale. Thank you to those of you who have already responded.

Dog Poet Transmitting.......

May your noses always be cold and wet.

Kalifornia comes to my mind nearly every day. In relation to this comes the awareness of water shortage as being much more of a problem than lack of food. You can only go without water for a short time. Water is also necessary for fire control; maybe I’m off on this, maybe chemicals and helicopters drawing ocean water is enough. I have never understood why desalination plants are not more present on the coasts. Certainly the possibility for water access potentially becoming critical has been known for some time. It’s a major issue in many parts of the world at the moment. In at least one of those places, most of the land mass is surrounded by ocean.

Here’s a bit of prophecy that is truly relevant to the time;

“I say unto you: one must still have chaos in oneself to be able to give birth to a dancing star. I say unto you: you still have chaos in yourselves.

“Alas, the time is coming when man will no longer give birth to a star. Alas, the time of the most despicable man is coming, he that is no longer able to despise himself. Behold, I show you the last man.

“‘What is love? What is creation? What is longing? What is a star?’ thus asks the last man, and blinks. Does this not accurately describe many as we see them today? Devolution can happen with great speed, relatively speaking. “Alas Babylon” And here are some coming attractions; “And the kings of the earth, who committed acts of immorality and lived sensuously with her, will weep and lament over her when they see the smoke of her burning, standing at a distance because of the fear of her torment, saying, 'Woe, woe, the great city, Babylon, the strong city! For in one hour your judgment has come."And the merchants of the earth weep and mourn over her, because no one buys their cargoes any more—”

Things like that are timeless and they always come true because that is a part of the cycling of cultures. There are many parallels between the cycling of Nature and the cycling of cultures and certain features come about at certain times. In the end of a cycle, in Nature, you get trees stripped of their once green and living leaves. Cold winds come and inhospitable conditions. In a culture you get similar things. You also get pervasive licentiousness and people turning away from previous forms of intimate interaction, rampant self interest and obsession with material things. In such points of a culture, you also find external Nature to be very much messed with in all sorts of perverse and profane ways and Nature, being a mirror, could you expect less from internal Nature?

Everything is connected. When the basic drive of a larger portion of people is geared toward selfishness, due to the intimidating pressure of material culture, things begin to go terribly awry. External Nature ceases to be generous. She retreats from her ancient and sacred contract with humanity for the purpose of that demonstration. This is the reason I hammer on about Broad Daylight Awareness, about emptying the mind, about engaging in the practice and spirit of Bhakti. These three things and a few others are of extreme and critical importance to ‘the state’ of one’s survival in dark times.

This is because the mass of the population has turned away from a sane appreciation of both Nature and the ineffable. What this does is to set a process into action, which intensifies, the greater the divide becomes. This is, putting aside the possibility of miraculous intervention, an inevitable course. Everything that happens to us is determined by our relationship with the ineffable. This is precisely why external forces are being applied in the fashion they are and why telepathic invasion is happening to many of us who have lost control over our own minds, or never had it to begin with.

This brings us back to emptying the mind and Broad Daylight Awareness. Emptying the mind, with the intention of making contact, brings in an atmosphere of invisible protection and activates a guidance system. Broad Daylight Awareness is a defensive perspective. It makes it possible for one to see things as they are, themselves as they are and see other things as well.

Anytime the world has gone out of balance, opportunity exists for those who are unwilling to go along with that program. It doesn't matter where you are. If you are meant to be relocated you will be. Locating the ineffable within will grant you a spiritually programmed GPS. It is a given that... if you are looking for the divine, the divine is also looking for you, according to the hide and seek equation. One time I was sitting in the discourse room at the original 48th street location of The Guru Bawa Fellowship. I was seriously gung ho at this point. I’d even taken a really cool drug that I had and thrown it into the blades of a fan. That’s quite a dramatic statement from me (grin). Anyway (I use that word a lot), I was sitting in the discourse room and interestingly enough, Bawa was giving a discourse. There were about 40 of us there and Bawa was talking about being a fisherman and how once he gets his hook set into you, all he has to do is reel you in. Some of us reel in easily enough but some of us (like me) are Marlins or Swordfish. We like to make a big deal out of the inevitable.

While I was sitting there and he was talking about this, I was completely caught up in what he was saying. I was completely unaware of myself but then... probably by design, I came back into myself and I saw that my head was drawn forward and was bobbing up and down and my mouth was wide open, exactly as if there was a hook in it. I could ‘feel’ the hook in my mouth. I've never forgotten that. Regardless, I moved on a couple of years later and a couple of years after that I was in Big Trouble in Little Japan, also known as Hawaii; specifically Maui. My friend, Michael Green, went to Bawa at that time and Bawa said to him, “Oh... he’ll be alright; he’s just chosen another path.” A year and a half later, I was acquitted of all charges under nothing less than miraculous circumstances and to this day am the only one who accomplished this (not that I accomplished this, not hardly). This goes back to my saying, “This brings us back to emptying the mind and Broad Daylight Awareness. Emptying the mind, with the intention of making contact, brings in an atmosphere of invisible protection and activates a guidance system. Broad Daylight Awareness is a defensive perspective. It makes it possible for one to see things as they are; themselves as they are and see other things as well.”

Because of the nature of my work and the particular impact it has; the supporters it attracts and the detractors it attracts AND the specific reasons for both, I have to play my end of the game carefully. I used to have to dramatically step out of line as a defensive tactic. Sometimes I think about what Marcus Aurelius, a truly unique man, used to do. He had a fellow who followed him around everywhere he went and his only duties were, when others praised him, or any form of adulation came to him; his only duty was to tell Aurelius, “You are just a man. You are only a man.” How cool is that? Do we have leaders like that in these times? Hardly... the most ruthless and cruelest rule over the rest of us. It’s like Valens, Valentinus, Caligula and Nero have all returned to their former positions. Of course, they’re not here by accident in these special times.

There’s a lot more going on in some places than might appear and isn't that always the case? There’s a lot more going on in the halls of power and in the world around us. If we could see what those things are, I’m sure some of us wouldn't be where we are or up to what we are up to. Nothing... nothing is a more serious pursuit and concern than making contact with the ineffable and engaging in self discovery and nothing could be more dangerous than laying up a personal store of riches and the pursuit of temporal station and control; except for... except for those consciously engaged in the performance of harm upon their fellows. Never was there a time when good works, good thoughts and truthful speech were so very important. Once again, this is precisely why the world and the agents of darkness are sowing so much confusion and so many distractions, not to mention creating such dire circumstances for so many of us. It’s all about controlling the focus and pushing the collective attention into areas of trivial distraction connected to the lower three centers.

Those who are not evil are not equipped to understand what it is capable of and why, nor by what permissions it is allowed to continue. This is yet another critical reason for seeking out the good offices of the agents of the ineffable. I’ll leave you with this from The Lord’s Prayer, “Lead us not into temptation.” AND... what is the next line?

You know what puzzles me, is before we are born we have access to infinity as far as knowledge goes, and we ask for the circumstances we were born to, and it seems most of us came with the intention of living in ignorance and staying there. Most of us don't seem to want to wake up even if the alarm clock bites their nose off. (Are you cringing yet?) So many of us CHOOSE to come into this world so handicapped, we might as well be Joe Bonham after his 'incident'.

And looking at myself and my 'heroes', why did I come to this damn realm so intellectually challenged in so many ways? And I'll be paying for the rest of my life for not standing up for myself a couple of times, but it won't matter after my sojourn is over; so hey. It's not forever, and I can live with that.

There is a purpose to this all, I read it's for faster evolution in the Cosmic scheme of things, but ye gods! Couldn't there have been another way?

I guess not, but of course I just can't see it. And I will be wondering if it was all worth it until I get to where I'm going.

Being a kalipornicator, it also blows me away that so few have any idea on what's coming down the line. If you try to tell them, it won't sink in.

Oh well. Not my problem, really. Though at the moment I am having fun in front of my flat mate's computer in a dark room with a nice cup of rose-hip/hibiscus tea with some killer raw, organic Mexicanese honey, and some actual real live rain falling. Forecast says we're gonna get a bit of rain next month. We shall see.

I own a copy of Meditations. Of course I read it. Ain't it something else that the roman empire went down the toilet after Marcus Aurelius's successor Commodus took over?

(Of course Latin isn't taught here in the public school system anymore, so you KNOW everyone is gonna pronounce it wrong, putting the accent on the second syllable as opposed to the first.)

Vis,

"but deliver us from evil."

I hoped I could also add...

My Master spoke of this man being one of the greatest ever:

1 There was a man in the land of Uz whose name was Job; and that man was blameless, upright, loving Father and turning away from evil. 2 Seven sons and three daughters were born to him. 3 His possessions also were 7,000 sheep, 3,000 camels, 500 yoke of oxen, 500 female donkeys, and very many servants; and that man was the greatest of all the men of the east. 4 His sons used to go and hold a feast in the house of each one on his day, and they would send and invite their three sisters to eat and drink with them. 5 When the days of feasting had completed their cycle, Job would send and consecrate them, rising up early in the morning and offering burnt offerings according to the number of them all; for Job said, “Perhaps my sons have sinned and cursed God in their hearts.” Thus Job did continually. 6 Now there was a day when the sons of Father (My Master being one)came to present themselves before the Lord (Immanuel; also known as The Word), and Satan also came among them. 7 The Lord said to Satan, “From where do you come?” Then Satan answered the Lord and said, “From roaming about on the earth and walking around on it.” 8 The Lord said to Satan, “Have you considered My servant Job? For there is no one like him on the earth, a blameless and upright man, fearing God and turning away from evil.”
Then Satan answered the Lord, “Does Job fear Father for nothing?" 10 “Have You not made a hedge about him and his house and all that he has, on every side? You have blessed the work of his hands, and his possessions have increased in the land. 11 “But put forth Your hand now and touch all that he has; he will surely curse You to Your face.” 12 Then the Lord said to Satan, “Behold, all that he has is in your power, only do not lay your hand upon him." So Satan departed from the presence of the Lord. Job proved successful.

Most folks don't understand that there is Father and 3 demagogues speaking and demonstrating their roles throughout the discourse of the Bible. You prolly do. My point being all power to do and not do resides in Father first and freewilly, second. Satan had to be invited to move in to Father's territory and pull his shite on Job.

Matt. 24:37-38: “But as the days of Noah were, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be. “For as in the days before the flood, they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark,”

As the asteroids and meteoroids become more frequent and the Sun burps, belches and poots the signs are becoming more demonstrable that this time will be by fire and not by flood, as promised.

2 harvests are predicted one of first fruits and the second of the vines being ripped up and cast into fire. Lots of big objects being reported worldwide silently gliding through cities towns and neighborhoods. Marking the list and checking it twice don't'cha know. The boys are back in town. The boys are back in town...

Peace be with you,

Aaron

When i was at school we would recite the Lords'prayer every day during the morning assembly. Funny things is just last week i realized that i had forgotten some of the words so i recited it ten or more times to lock it back in, and i now say it a few times each and every day..

Desalination has crossed my mind often here lately. For only a fraction of what we spend on wars, destabilizing other countries and other various crimes, a sort of 'Manhattan project' for cheap semi-decentralized water supplies should be achievable. That wouldn't fit the agenda though, would it?

Visible said...

No, that wouldn't fit the agenda; what I was implying.

Vis: "I have never understood why desalination plants are not more present on the coasts. Certainly the possibility for water access potentially becoming critical has been known for some time."

I knew something was 'funny' with the California government thirty-some years ago (when I was much more innocent), during the big debate over whether to construct major desalination plants in/for southern CA or to construct major canals to drain away the life-giving water from northern CA. Well, we know how that decision went down. Northern CA lakes are now mud puddles in comparison to then. What a waste. Too bad; it would be a good way to put Federal dollars to work in useful jobs, similar to the dam/road/bridge projects of the last depression...

(A huge desalination plant has recently been constructed on the east coast of Australia for the same reasons. I'm glad the Aussies bit the bullet and showed the way. I wonder how it got past TPTWB?)

Best Wishes,

I am a student of Jesus Christ period but in the 'esoteric' Rosicrucian manner.

As for the desalination. There are a great many things I could list that we either pushed aside for the profit of bankers, suppressed for the profit of bankers, or shanghaied into wrong applications for banker profit. We have all the means to make this world a functioning paradise; feeding and clothing everyone but the Satanists (knowing and unknowing) have had the benefit of the astrological sequencing.

Watching low life John Kerry make a public statement concerning the Arizona gay law filled me with revulsion, simply from his picture. He has truly come to look like the sold out swine that he is. What does the secretary of state have to do with that business? They are pressing major hard for that agenda at the moment, headline articles in multiple appearing.

American Idol is showcasing one and I knew that was going to happen. As it so happens I picked more than 50% of the finalists when there were hundreds yet to choose from. That made me feel kind of good like I got the eye for it but next to the depths of my abysmal ignorance that doesn't count for much.

Calipornia desalination plans.

"Smart" men say: There are more 'important' and pressing tings to take care of right now, like this, that and the other"{ (all relatively trivial)

Intelligent men say: "We have to take care of the future, otherwise the future will take care of us"

Of course, in Calipornia the former has prevailed (no surprise there).

I lived in CA (LA) for a year. I was not particularly metaphysically inclined at the time, but the place just felt utterly, completely "wrong", so we left.

Today I feel it is somehow a focus of, or a main seat of evil and malevolence. Of course, it is unsubstantiated, but the vibe for me is real and palpable.

There are a lot more pressing issues to deal with, and more worthy of attention than desalination plants. Say, like the F-35 fighter plane, for instance.

Round and round it goes....

Ray B. et al –

Part 1

Dr. Barbour’s book, “The End of Time: The Next Revolution in Physics” is about a fairly radical interpretation of “reality” that excludes the concept of time as we normally think of it. His book has no metaphysical speculation, but for me, that’s most important – how well does his idea fit in with the metaphysical ideas of our universe that we’ve inherited from the avatars.

I have not read his book for a number of years, so it’s likely I’ll have some of the features of his ideas wrong…

Barbour suggests that we mark time by change, and only by change. Trivially, the hands of a clock seem to change position and we use that to “measure” time. Sitting here, if I stop typing and don’t look at a clock, nothing seems to be changing, so has time stopped? No, because I’m still breathing, my heart is beating, etc. It becomes difficult to think of a situation where no changes occur.

That isn’t a very profound observation, but he further suggests that the number of atoms in the universe, generally estimated to be around 10 to the power 80, are arranged in every possible configuration, and are static. In other words, every possible configuration of atoms in the universe exists simultaneously, and furthermore, the configurations are fixed – they don’t ever change. (This is a variation of the “many-worlds interpretation.”) If you’re like me, you can’t even begin to visualize this. OK, but give it a try. His “configuration space” requires four dimensions to be able to “stack” all of these parallel universes. Try dropping one dimension, so that instead of a huge number of 3-D configurations, we have a huge number of 2-D configurations, with each configuration different from the nearby ones by practically unnoticeable changes. It sounds like the frames on a movie film, right? So here’s the idea in two dimensions. He suggests that the universe is like a movie film, with each frame only a tiny bit different than the one before. But in addition, at each frame of the film, the film branches off into a new sequence of film. Furthermore, just like a movie film, everything is fixed, nothing in a frame ever changes.

Now, it has been known and puzzled over for many years that consciousness is an integral part of events that occur at sub microscopic levels (quantum events), and so consciousness is somehow connected directly with the physical universe. Barbour suggests that consciousness is analogous to a projector that is showing a film. Consciousness “lights up” these frames of the configuration space, one after another. As your individual consciousness passes over a frame, that is what you experience. Then on to the next frame, and the next, and so on. What appears to you as “time” is the change you experience in atomic configuration from frame to frame.

We have to somehow incorporate the laws of physics into this picture. How does that work? He suggests that it’s as though the strips of film are laid out on a surface having hills and valleys. A trajectory (of consciousness “lighting up” successive frames) will tend to follow the valleys. The frames at the bottom of the valleys are the trajectories that are most likely. Here’s an example. While there is no physical law that prevents the air molecules in a room from all crowding into one corner, it would be very, very unlikely. So those frames would be high up on a “mountain,” whereas the frames where the various gasses in the room are completely mixed would be in the “valley.”

Part 2

Most of us sleepwalk through life, and so we just follow the filmstrip at the bottom of the valley. We are conscious, but not intentional. With intention, we could take one of the tributaries that goes up the side of a “hill.”

What are some of the metaphysical implications of this vision of the construction of the universe?

For one, this static universe was created by the Ineffable, to use Vis’s term. But there’s no “action.” We, as individual bits of consciousness, animate the frozen universe. In that sense, we are co-creators with the Ineffable. The Ineffable creates, we animate and we witness the Ineffable’s creation.

For another implication, consider the important precept, “Judge not, lest ye be judged.” If you find fault with what you’re seeing, it’s only because of your particular trajectory through the filmstrips. You, and you alone, are responsible for what you’re seeing. Want to change it? Just move to a more amenable section of filmstrip. (more on that later) It’s like going to a circus, then complaining that you’re surrounded by clowns…

Thanks Les
I mean thanks, thanks and more thanks...
I seldom post but I do try hard to read every post you publish.
As I may have mentioned before, I had been looking for something since Dec. 2007.
I found it at long last at a blog named Smoking Mirrors and in particular a link therein...
Awareness Watching Awareness
Since the first paragraph of that eBook I started reading my life has been strange to say the least.
Again yesterday very strange things happen. My wife keeps asking me what is going on...and I tell her it must for purposes of demonstration. She looks at me oddly and says nothing. Unfortunately she is wrapped around materialism so badly it makes me sad to say so.
So this morning I wanted to review Chapter 12 of Awareness Watching Awareness, The Loving All Method. After reading I always feel the need to meditate and it’s always the most wonderful experience one could have; at least mine is…however it was not always that way. Practice truly does make better, perfect comes later.
I was relaxed and upon meditating I started getting the worst pain down my entire left side of body. No big deal…every time I start to mediate I get plenty of interference, distractions, pain and suffering but I don’t let that bother me and I continue and ‘magically’ (although it’s not magic) the pain disappears and the next thing I know I am in deep thought with God and I feel like a million bucks.
Today was the best experience so far…these sessions just keep getting better.
And day after day the strange things just keep happening. An example; yesterday afternoon I was sitting on my ‘mediation chair’ looking outside the window and I saw a dark roundish black mass moving at hyper speed directly towards the window. Whatever it was it hit the metal screen and window with force and distracted me…who wouldn’t be distracted by such?
Just now….a really loud noise came from my kitchen…sounded like someone throwing pots around. I ignore it because I know what it is…it’s nothing, just a loud sound.
I digress…my wife asks me what hit the screen. My first thought a bird, but any bird that hit that hard would be on the ground injured or dead. I quickly looked outside...no bird. And I did not expect to find a bird, just a demonstration of some kind. These strange things are becoming very common. I smile when they happen.
In closing; things just keep getting better. And I have Les Visible to thank for it.
Thank you sir.
I don’t know why it took me so long to find what I was looking for but I finally did. And the years of headache, heartache, depression, anger, resentment, fear and loathing are gone. Damn, is that a miracle or what? Of course the answer is no. Seek and ye shall find.
Cheers

Ray B. et al:

Part 3

So how might you change the reality that you’re currently experiencing? You are travelling along a particular section of filmstrip, making minor changes left and right as you make your decisions about your life. But those decisions are very strongly mediated by your beliefs. Your deepest beliefs were set down when you were a child and are very difficult to even see as beliefs – rather you accept them as reality. Other beliefs are added as you go through life.

Your beliefs “anchor” you to your current trajectory. You tend to anticipate the next frame in the film, and, lo and behold, it appears – a self fulfilling prophesy. (In metaphysical terms, this is “As within, so without.”) In order to move to a more acceptable section of the filmstrip, you’ll need to rid yourself of the hooks you have into the current trajectory. In other words, you’ll need to empty your mind. Given that many beliefs are subconscious, that’s not easy. You’re going to need help. Happily, help is at hand.

Beliefs form the ego. The ego is the part of us that can take offence and be embarrassed, among other things. Being offended, the ego’s natural response is to become defensive and retaliate. Instead, consider that the offender has just paid a price in karma to offend you. Don’t now throw away that karmic investment. Rather than defend yourself, consider why you feel offended. There’s got to be a belief that’s been challenged. At some expense to himself, the offender has pointed it out to you. Your job is to uncover the belief. Over time, you’ll become a “wire-frame” individual. Insults simply pass through you because they don’t apply. (This whole thing started because the Apollo Project was challenged. Of course I have a belief that men walked on the moon, but it is a very weak belief, and if anyone wants to challenge it, that’s fine, the challenge won’t upset me or hurt my feelings. If I think the challenger is at all open-minded, I might suggest an alternative to the challenger’s beliefs, but if not well-received, that’s OK too.) Without the belief-hooks tying you to the current filmstrip, you’re free to change to another section. How? Visualize the new situation. Let yourself experience the feelings that the new situation would elicit. Don’t think – feel. If you think, then you’re back to beliefs again, since thinking is based on beliefs. Always remember that what you experience as being so real is just a sequence of frames of a film, frozen for all time. You are the projectionist that makes things seem to move.

Visualizing a new situation doesn’t work? It probably won’t, and the reason is that your beliefs prevent it. You’ve got so many that you’re not even conscious of. Start small. Try it with things that you can accept as being possible. Try it with things that seem trivial. Of course, if then it works, you’ll then say to yourself: “It would have happened anyway,” and you just reinforce your belief in scepticism.

Wow Bob! I get the feeling you're like me in that when inexplicable supernatural things are happening you couldn't be more thrilled. What would make most people lose it is my kind of Disneyland.

I know, special effects are not to be encouraged but I don't have much else to enthrall or entertain me here. There's just about nothing here that holds my interest for any length of time.

Glad things work for you despite the obstructions. I get hammered often but... what are you gonna do?

Bob- "Seek and ye shall find" works because everything is always present at all times. It's right there and it's accessible, all it takes is intention, which is the "seek" part. If your intention is strong enough and your beliefs are weak enough, your consciousness will move to a different part of the filmstrip and will "find" what it is you're seeking. We're in a playground where everything that is possible is available.

John

"Seek and ye shall find." This is unequivocal and asserts two things:

1. What you seek is already there. (It says "you shall find", not "you may find" - there are no restrictions here.)

2. The condition for finding is seeking. Without intention, you may find; with intention, you will find.

Les
At one time, back in early 2008 I was terrified at what was transpiring around me. I was terrified to go to sleep. From terror I moved to hate…hate for whatever was causing my life to be far from normal.
I vowed to find and attempt to kill whatever it was that caused me literal torture, pain and suffering.
Some months went by and I developed an intense belief that all life forms, even the ones tormenting me had the right to life and who was I to judge?
A mere human to put judgment other life forms? Not me, I will leave that to the creator. I am not one to judge, although much of my life I had done just that.
When my life flipped 180 degrees on Dec. 21, 2007 at 10:30 in the morning I underwent several transformations.
It took me these several years to realize that whatever life throws at me I can take it. And I learned to smile when under duress.
I lived most of my life in Colorado. Over 40 years of my 66 years I lived in Colorado and swore this is where I would like to die.
Then one night about five years ago while trying to sleep a very tall entity, actually several of them entered my bedroom and told me in I would have to move to the Washington DC area. We communicated without words, thought to thought and I replied ‘like hell I will’.
I hate the Washington DC area. I have been here many times and I hate it. Let me change the word hate to dislike. I keep trying to not use the word ‘hate’, as to hate something requires lots of negative energy and I want no part of negative energy. Still learning and trying to make my life better…
Well on June 1, 2012 I moved into my house in Upper Marlboro, MD. I had just retired from NOAA and took the advice to move here after flying out here several times early 2012 looking for a house.
Well, here I am and I love it. Got several acres of hardwood forest around me and except for the military aircraft at times, and extensive chemtrails and geo-engineering it’s normally very quiet here.
But geo-engineering is everywhere so I can’t avoid that except to stay indoors when it’s heavy spraying.
So it appears something I will call demons try as hard as possible to keep me from mediating, to keep me from talking to God, to keep me from reading spiritual material. They have many ways to distract me, to hurt me, to cause me severe pain and suffering. And every time they make me suffer I tell them this:
You can hurt my physical body, this container but you cannot touch SELF, and you know it. So go ahead, I can take whatever you dish out. And suddenly they stop and leave me alone…until next time.
Back in 2008 I had several incredible experiences with SELF. It was the most amazing thing that ever had happened to me.
But my life has been so full of strange things I often wonder why me? I was supposed to have died four times but I did not. Doctors have told me on these occasions they can’t figure out how I survived what I did. I can only think someone is watching out for me. That is the only reasonable assumption I can make.
Even when in the Marine Corp in Vietnam in 1967 a very odd thing happened. It would take too long to write it out, perhaps another time.
I have realized after much reflection on my life that someone/something was guiding me. Someone or something was causing me a lifetime of trouble to teach me. Someone or something was pulling strings on my behalf and I thought it was me…silly rabbit.
After the military I was a hippy. You were right when you wrote about hippies have a hard time with law enforcement. The favorite tactic the police used was to arrest me for vagrancy and then hold me for 72 hours and let me go. Over and over, everywhere I went the same thing. I did nothing wrong, could never be charged with any crime, it was just harassment.
Oh well, I have said enough.
Cheers and best regards Les

John:

Thank you for such brilliant exposition! I had perused all the comments at Amazon for that book, but they had not enlightened me. Yours gives a deeper meaning to it all. All of it has duly been cut-and-pasted to my 'keep' file (grin).

I really like the infinite 'hill-and-valley' metaphor. (Reminds me of the brilliance of rendering 4D->3D into the 3D->2D of the "Flatland" book of an earlier century.) I had done quite a bit of reading on Hugh Everett's 'Many Worlds' rendition of the 'Observer' problem in quantum mechanics. The h-a-v metaphor gives a different slant on this, and I will be re-reading it several times, I'm sure. Again, thanks.

A couple of quick takes: In the 80s, I was reading a series of SF books (nod, nod, wink, wink) by Keith Laumer globally-entitled "Worlds of the Imperrium." In them, his protagonist discovers he has a talent for 'jumping' between parallel worlds (h-a-v's). Small jumps where little changes are easy; large changes are hard. Also, it only works if he has not observed whatever he wants to change. (It can be wild. I remember him being abducted in a car, and thinking of 'jumping' to a sub-world where there's a revolver in the glove compartment. But, an antagonist opens it first and our hero sees inside it - collapsing the wave in QM-speak - which renders the shift impossible.) Well worth reading for 'manifesting' hints alone...

Also, a channeled entity I enjoyed a couple of decades ago used to pound into us - with the relentlessness Vis uses in 'purpose of demonstration' (sorry, Vis -grin-) - about the need to visualize what you wanted while including the feeling level (like the feeling of contentment on a beach, not just visualizing the beach) and pack as much emotion behind it as you could. That way, you could make it over higher 'hills' into a more-distant 'valley', in book-speak. Much similarity to chew on. Thanks!

The portion on beliefs and ego-attachment was also profound. Many of my teachers have stressed that needed work, both for manifestation purposes and enlightenment purposes. Your book-view offers a different way of visualizing this.

Also, the 'beaten path' of sheeple was well-expounded in a h-a-v way. I am reminded of Rupert Sheldrake's work on the power of repetition to create habits and ultimately 'laws'. This could be seen as pre-disposing (still in the time metaphor) how a wave would collapse - ruling out other h-a-v's without the knowledge and 'effort' to pop the probability-bubble in a different way. Mixed metaphors, but fascinating stuff!

I'll fire this off now, but you have my brain bubbling. Thanks; you are a good (and wise) writer!

Best Wishes,
Ray B.

Hey John -- thanks. Something similar has been trying to formulate in my perception, in re movement among 'alternate universes'. That is a pretty good mapping. I already knew it happens (without a doubt:) but quite hard to verbalize. Anyhoo just wanted to let you know I heard it.

Thanks Ray and Stephen. One big difference between Hugh Everett's idea and this one is that the observer in the Many Worlds is 'stationary' as he collapses the wave functions. With each collapse, the universe divides. With Barbour, the only thing that 'moves' in the universe is the observer. The wave function collapses amount to the observer deciding to take one filmstrip path or another one.

The metaphysical interpretation of Barbour's ideas are not without problems. How do 'individual' consciousnesses relate to one another for example? What is implied by a consciousness becoming 'enlightened,' for another. (Clearly the two are related.) Also, what about the idea that we are all one in terms of consciousness, only we're not conscious of it until enlightened?

More later...

Many thanks to John on introducing Julian Barbour here. Food for thought. I tried to find out what JB's belief system is, with no results.

Many thanks, as always, to Les V, and specially for this post.

Query to Les: when you use the word "bhakti" (not here, but in one of your recent posts) , what do you mean?
I've seen it used in a couple of different ways by others, and am not sure.
Thanks.
Best to all.

Some random things I should have included before…

Dr. Barbour’s web site:

http://www.platonia.com/

Blue-Patch, I agree, I’ve never been able to find out anything regarding his personal beliefs. His book is strictly about physics. I’m guessing that he feels he has enough to deal with by introducing a fairly radical idea in physics without opening a second front in the metaphysics community.

I believe that at some point physics and metaphysics will merge and a unified vision will result. Traditionally, theories of physics could be verified by experiment. That can be difficult to do in the case of cosmology. In the case of metaphysics, there’s generally (always?) no proof at all. However if ideas from different cultures, written in different languages seem congruent, that seems like a good sign.

I know a little more about Christianity than about other mainstream religions. One guide given in Christianity is something like: “The things of God are foolishness to man.” (I’m paraphrasing here – if you think I’ve improperly taken it out of context – you can check it out yourself.) OK, let’s try using it. An idea that makes all kinds of sense to me is: “An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth…” Yes! “USA, USA – let’s kill the bastards,” says my ego. Because it makes sense, it cannot be not “of God.” End of story. Now look for the same idea in the New Testament. “I say to you, do not resist an evil person…” This is clearly nonsense – “what a stupid and unworkable idea,” says my ego. Because it seems foolish, it may be “of God.” So in the evaluation of metaphysical matters – matters of God – we expect that ideas that are impractical and foolish are just the ones that may have merit.

So, are Barbour’s ideas foolish enough to have merit? I don’t know.

Being foolish is a necessary, but not a sufficient, condition for being “of God.” So a little discernment is necessary, and my experience is that discernment arises from meditation – an empty mind, open to Truth that just seems to appear in its own time. For example, solipsism seems pretty foolish to me, and yet it also seems not to be “of God.” I don’t like the idea of denying the independent existence of all others. So, for me, Barbour’s idea must include apparently independent consciousnesses, each independently able to navigate the filmstrip universe.

Keep in mind that one’s memories and thoughts are presumably linked to molecular configurations in one’s brain, and so are also part of the filmstrip universe. In other words, even by accessing a memory (that is, thinking), or by changing your mind about something, means that you’ve moved to a different frame on the filmstrip. The only thing about you that is not tied to frames of the film is your awareness. Awareness just is. It beholds everything around it. Presumably that is the part of you that has been “Made in the image of God.” Unfortunately, that is the very part that most of us almost completely override by ego, that is, belief and subsequent thought. Awareness speaks with a silent voice, and it is only in silence that it may be heard.

Free will, choice, offers either God the Person or God Inc.

As Krishna said to Arjuna, after speaking Bhagavad Gita to him - 'now you choose'
-----------------------------------------

Metaphysical Society: How can we understand the difference between God's personality and individuality, and our own? If God expands Himself into everything, then He must be inside all of this creation.

Srila Prabhupada: Yes. That is the difference between God and us: God is situated everywhere, but you are not situated everywhere. You are situated within your body, and I am situated within my body. You cannot feel the pains and pleasures of my body, nor can I feel your pains and pleasures. But God is everywhere, and therefore He can understand what your pains and pleasures are, and what my pains and pleasures are. That is the difference between the atma, or individual soul, and the super-atma, or Supersoul. You are the atma, and God is the super-atma.

Metaphysical Society: But since God is pure spirit, or atma, and we are also pure spirit, can we not eventually evolve up to the level of God?

Srila Prabhupada: No. We admit that God is spirit and you are spirit, but God's power and your power are not equal. God said, "Let there be creation," and there was creation. But if you say, "Let there be capati[bread]," there will be no capati unless you work. You have to work for it.

Metaphysical Society: God is the whole, and we are the parts, and we are evolving to integrate ourselves with that whole.

Srila Prabhupada: That's all right, but you can never become the whole.

Metaphysical Society: But we are in evolution.

Srila Prabhupada: No. The part is a part eternally, and the whole is the whole eternally.

Metaphysical Society: So one does not integrate himself with the whole when one becomes evolved?

Srila Prabhupada: No. You are already in the whole.

Metaphysical Society: Therefore, we are all one.

Srila Prabhupada: One and different that is our philosophy. We are just like one small screw in a machine. The screw is part of the machine, so in one sense the small screw and the machine are one. But the small screw is not equal to the whole machine, nor can the screw be called the whole machine.

Metaphysical Society: So we are forever a part of the whole?

Srila Prabhupada: Yes. As Krsna says in the Bhagavad-gita [15.7], mamaivamso jiva-loke jiva-bhutah sanatanah: "The living entities in this conditioned world are My eternal, fragmental parts."

Metaphysical Society: Can Krsna consciousness be compared to the ultimate consciousness of Christ?

Srila Prabhupada: Yes. There is no difference between consciousness of Christ and that of Krsna, provided one follows Christ's orders. Christ spoke as the son of God, and Krsna is speaking as God, so there is no difference in their teachings. Whether the father speaks it or the son speaks it, the truth is the same.

Yes John, it is very simple and accommodating.

The liberating essence, the key, is not to be found in philosophy or metaphysics or any of the many conjurings from the likes of us.

Sanatana Dharma, our eternal position, is realized only through those last few words of that very nice discourse - "provided one follows Christ's orders"

The rub, eh?

Everything else (with a capital 'E') is just the illusion of competition - i.e. wallowing in the infinite arms of Mayadevi.
